Jalana Grant

Director, Doula Program

Jalana has been supporting childbearing families as a doula since 1983. She is a certified doula and an Approved Birth Doula Trainer with DONA International. From 2000 to 2009, she served as the Western Canada Director on DONA’s International Board of Directors. Jalana was also one of the founding members of the Doula Services Association of BC.

A Certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator, she has been teaching prenatal classes in the Vancouver area since 1989. Jalana has been with the South Community Birth Program since its inception. She designed the doula program, has trained all of our doulas, and continues to serve as the mentor and “Mother” to everyone in the program.

She also plays a key role in the Connecting Pregnancy group sessions—co-facilitating some groups from the beginning and joining others to speak about the role of the doula and coping in labour.

Jalana describes her work at SCBP as her dream job. She feels deeply grateful to be doing what she loves, surrounded by families and doulas she cares about.

She lives in Langley with her husband Chris, and is the proud mother of three adult children—Kye, Teil, and Sharai. Her greatest delight these days is being “Memaw” to her beloved and scrumptious grandchild.

Jalana’s love of travel began in high school when she lived in Singapore. She loves being outdoors—especially anywhere with a great view—and documenting her adventures through photography.
